The Preston North Crime Watch Association (PNCWA) is designed to reinforce security for the 126 homes in our neighborhood through the joint efforts of all the residents.

We use a multiple-camera system, warning signage, Constant Contact email alerts, and the deterrent presence of our Volunteers in Patrol.

Your Volunteers in Patrol (VIPs)

  • We patrol the streets and alleys to look for potential security risks and problems, such as prowlers, signs of unlawful entry, packages left on a porch, garage doors open at a home that might not be occupied, loose pets, etc.
  • We contact owners by phone and email, and — when larger groups of neighbors need to be notified — we use Constant Contact to issue announcements or alerts.
  • We give homes extra attention when a neighbor requests a vacation watch.
  • We keep a directory of neighborhood pets in each patrol notebook. Let us know your pet’s name, breed, and coat colors (if a mammal), and we will add him or her to our patrol notebooks so that we can contact you if the need arises.

We ask that you help us three ways.

  1. When we email a Constant Contact crime alert, we will ask you to check your personal outdoor cameras if you are along a route from the crime scene to a possible neighborhood entry or exit point. This additional level of surveillance has proved helpful.
  2. Donate (any amount) when Tom Rice, our Crime Watch chairman, sends our annual fund-raising appeal. We are an all-volunteer group, so there is no ‘people cost’. Our biggest expense is our security cameras and their maintenance. Beyond that, we use funds to replace and maintain the components in our patrol kits and to pay for our Constant Contact subscription.
  3. Consider becoming a Volunteer in Patrol (VIP) and patrolling in your car for 30+ minutes twice a month with your spouse or fellow volunteer.

Please let us know if you would like to volunteer or if you have questions or concerns.
